“I have a demat account now,” smiles my friend Pooja proudly. Pooja is a doctor and education has been her passion since childhood. However, for financial education, the scenario is a bit different.

When I ask her what stocks she holds, and she says, “My brother told me to buy 3 stocks yesterday. I don’t really understand it, but at least I’ve invested something.”

This is a common story. Many women either stay away from markets irrespective of their educational qualifications. However, many of them now open demat accounts, thanks to the ‘awareness’, but majorly rely on the men in the house to decide where to invest.

They say, “Stock market is too complicated.” Financial independence becomes just another task they ‘administer’—not lead. That’s why I want to highlight today that the latest Gujarati film Auntypreneur is such a powerful gamechanger.

It brings to life the story of Jasuben, a 50+ homemaker who breaks the myth that finance is only for men or MBAs.

While speculation is often attached as a Synonym to markets, this movie builds a fresh perspective. To give a brief overview of the plot, Jasuben needs Rupees 1.96 crore to pay the accumulated Property tax overdues of the society, which have been defaulted by the society chairman for past 40 years.

To earn money within 4 months, she decides to be an AUNTYPRENEUR by starting her investing journey in markets. She seeks support from her tenant who has seen stock market loss impacts in his own family and wants to beat the market volatilities to make a lot of money. The best lesson from this background is that none of them invest lakhs in speculation.

They invest time to learn technicalities, face challenge but yet, prefer to be consistent. Another big lesson of no impulse decisions! Jasuben prefers to start small and trusts intuition based on the basic premise of the market – that companies which progress across consumers, perform well on the markets. She focusses on who consumes what the most and masters this simplest but most effective way to select shares to invest.

She teams up with fellow society women residents and most of them have reasons, fears and preference to live conventionally. Jasuben proves her point by participating in a mock stock market competition and wins her initial capital to start investing for building a hefty portfolio.

Soon, the ladies special team note what they consume – soaps, biscuits, medicines, mouth wash – and figure out if those companies are listed. The consistent and enthusiastic approach is often questioned by patriarchy.

Dialogues like the women requesting to use society office for trading saying ‘amne aa jagya ni jaroor che’ to which the chairman replies ‘pan aa jagya ne tamari koi jaroor nathi’. Many heartwarming statements showcase realities and accelerate thought towards women getting self confident with finances.

Overall, this film teaches:

For Women: You don’t need to be an expert. Start by investing in what you understand. Look at companies whose products you use daily.

For Men: Encourage women to learn. Don’t just tell them what to buy or don’t tell them these matters are not made for them. Invite them into conversations, let them lead. Their core intuition is way stronger.

For Families: Make stock market a dinner table discussion. Let kids hear terms like SIP, profit, stock splits—let it become normal.

For Youth: Urgency and urge to earn profits will always be there. Learn to consistently learn about a subject, figure out best ways to implement and stay patient, consistent plus enhance your perseverance.

Auntypreneur is more than a movie. It’s a mirror to every Indian household. Watch it not just for entertainment, but to ignite your family’s financial journey
